Applied Behavioural Analysis
Recently, I became certified in Applied Behavioural Analysis Therapy. This was something I had been interested in for a while, and was excited when I found a great program I could sign up for during the summer months off. After completing the course, I strongly recommend other teachers look into the ABA therapy techniques, as they are something that can be extremely useful and helpful in and out of the classroom.
What is ABA? Applied Behavioural Analysis is researching the relationship between behaviour and environment, designing a method to change that behaviour, and systematically applying these methods to improve the behaviour.
Why is it useful? ABA is a wonderful technique because it improves socially significant behaviours that improve daily life experiences for the child, and has proven to be quite effective.
Examples of ABA: prompting, reinforcement and fading strategies.
