In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry returns to Hogwarts for his second year. He finds himself uncovering a mystery that had been kept a secret for a thousand years! Here are some questions to think about:
1. Why is Harry able to speak parseltongue? What gives him that ability? Do you think he liked the fact that he was able tp speak with snakes? 2. Why do you think some of the ghosts in Hogwarts, for example Moaning Myrtle or Nearly Headless Nick stick around in the castle? 3. Dumbledore tells Harry, "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities". What do you think he means by this? 4. Why do you think Ginny kept writing in Tom's diary? 5. If you could mix up a batch of Polyjuice Potion, who would you want to be and why? Remember to respond in the comment section by click on 'comment'. Happy Wizarding! Congratulations! You've been accepted at Hogwarts, School of Wizardy and Witchcraft. It is your first year, and you are expected to take the following classes:
1. Transfiguration 2. Charms 3. Potions (with Snape- ah!) 4. History of Magic 5.Defense Against the Dark Arts 6. Astronomy 7. Herbology 8. Flying Lessons Wow, that's a lot for a first year, but it's all so exciting. The question remains, however: which of these classes are your favourites and why? You can pick up to 3 of your top favourite classes, but don't forget to tell us why! (Remember to answer in the comment section by clicking on 'comment') Many of us are fascinated with the world of Hogwarts. Seeing as we are all quarantined at home, let's discuss what we read online! Whether you are only at the first book, finished the series, or re-reading for the second time (like myself), let's talk about our favourite books.
First discussion: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Here are some questions you can discuss in the comment section: 1. Why does Dumbledore decide to have Harry grow up with the Dursleys rather than with one of the wizard families? How does Harry’s experience with his relatives build his character? 2. When Harry first meets Malfoy, he reminds him of Dudley. How are these two alike? How are they different? 3. Discuss the importance of the Mirror of Erised and the meaning of its name. Dumbledore tells Harry: “It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts . . . However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or truth.” (p. 213) What does he mean by this? What would you see if you looked in the mirror? Feel free to add in any other comments and thoughts you have about the first HP Book. Happy discussing wizards! Don't forget to let us know which house you represent. |
